His journey began with Birmingham in 2016, a year that saw him taste success, and he followed this up with Belle Vue the very next season. Over the years, Smith has become a familiar figure in the league, spending five seasons with the Colts, his presence a constant in the ever-changing landscape of the sport.
But here's where it gets interesting. Smith's story doesn't end with the Colts. He's also secured a team place in the Cab Direct Championship with Berwick, a testament to his enduring talent and the respect he commands within the sport.
And this is the part most people miss... Smith's decision to join Buxton as captain is more than just a professional move. It's a personal choice driven by his proximity to the team's home ground at Hi-Edge. Despite his commitments with Berwick on Saturday nights, Smith's Sunday travels back home are manageable, a small price to pay for the opportunity to lead a team so close to his heart.
"When I heard Buxton was making a comeback, I knew I wanted to be involved," Smith shared. "The fact that I don't live far from there made the decision even easier. It's a privilege to be asked to captain the DUCTAIR Bulls, and I'm confident we'll assemble a strong team capable of challenging for the top honors."
